DEATH DOULA 101 

Honestly, anyone who is curious about the work of death doulas and the path to joining us within the holistic death care movement.  This can include people facing end-of-life themselves, those caring for someone with a life-limiting illness, grievers who wish to make meaning from their loss, hospice volunteers and professionals, and aspiring private practice death doulas.

The truth is that there is no ONE best path that will fit every aspiring doula.  We're all bringing different backgrounds, skill sets, experience, and goals into our death doula work.  The goal of this mini-course is to break down the work we do and the different paths to training.  I also give you a great example of my teaching style, in case you're leaning towards my program, you can see if we're a good fit.

I believe that deathwork should be accessible. And frankly, right now, it's not.  Because we are an unregulated profession, there is no centralized regulatory or governing agency on the work of death doulas and midwives.  This mini-course is designed to teach you, in 90-minutes, about the lineage of death midwifery, why death doulas are re-emerging today, the roles death doulas fill, the doula model of care we all work by, and the paths to training and certification.  I also speak to my own experience and private practice and give you some death literacy recommendations.

My full apprenticeship is structured in a similar way with 11 courses (designed to be 1 per month) + mentorship sessions (1 per month) + shadow opportunities (1 per month for those local to Middle Tennessee).

There are many death doula training programs that will offer you a "complete" training in as little as 36 hours over 3 days, virtually.

I believe that teaching this work is as sacred an undertaking as performing it.  That means that I let Death guide how this work should be taught and for me that is in a person-to-person lineage.  

My apprentices spend over 100 hours in personalized curriculum, over 30 hours of 1:1 mentorship, and over 20 hours shadowing me as we work with people who are at end-of-life.  

My standalone courses are designed to boost death doula education in particular areas.
